Background of U.S. EPA Pesticide Registration
Pesticides distributed, sold, and used in the United States are strictly controlled by the Federal Insecticide Fungicide & Rodenticide Act (FIFRA) and related state regulations. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulates pesticides under the broad authority granted by FIFRA and the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act. Except for some products exempted from registration by the U.S. EPA, other pesticide products such as field pesticides, biopesticides, sterilants, disinfectants, and related devices exported to the U.S. must be registered with the US EPA in accordance with the regulations of FIFRA before they can be normally produced, transported, and sold.
