If you’re planning to import telecom or networking equipment into India, there’s one requirement you cannot afford to treat as a formality: the MTCTE Certificate. Many importers discover this only when their shipment is already at the port—and by then, the damage is done.

What Is MTCTE and Why It Exists
MTCTE stands for Mandatory Testing and Certification of Telecom Equipment, a regulatory framework enforced by the Telecommunication Engineering Centre (TEC) under the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Government of India.
Its purpose is simple but strict:
any telecom equipment connected to Indian telecom networks must be tested and certified for Indian technical and safety standards before it enters the market.
If your product transmits, receives, routes, switches, or interfaces with telecom networks in India, MTCTE likely applies.
The Most Dangerous Assumption Importers Make

This assumption has killed more imports than bad pricing or weak demand.
Indian Customs can and will stop shipments that fall under MTCTE if:
